Red Box Car

Red Box Car

To us, food is synonymous with freshness and quality served in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. We make everything fresh to order.

At THE RED BOX CAR dishes are always made to order and completely fresh, utilizing the highest quality ingredients. We have been a neighborhood favorite for the past forty years and we plan to continue welcoming our loyal customers for years to come.?

We serve lunch and dinner - anytime you want it. We have all the traditional diner favorites as well as our own special dishes.

The Red Box Car has been a landmark in Red Lodge since 1972 when Jane & Ed Alquist purchased a 1903 Box Car that was from the Rocky Fork Railroad line that had originally gone from Laurel, MT up to Red Lodge, MT and moved it to where it sits now. Jane Alquist started the Red Box Car Drive In. She and her crew sold hamburgers, fries and milkshakes and also the original recipe homemade Onion Rings that we still serve today.

The Box Car has had a few owners since then but it has always been here for families to enjoy. Children have come to the Box Car, played by the creek, eaten an ice cream cone and many come back to bring their children to play by the creek and eat an ice cream cone the and the cycle goes on. Lori & Jim Davis bought the Red Box Car in 1999 and Lori and her sons, Tyler & Jacob continue to own it ! This year (2018) Lori and her sons, Tyler and Jacob, are sharing the work of managing the Box Car. Tyler took a one year sabbatical and is back. Jacob has come back for the summer from his home in Denver to help with the duties! We really are a family business this year! We are proud to carry Wyoming Legend Beef for our big 1/2 lb. hand pressed Box Car Burger. This beef from Cody is a natural dry aged &antibiotic free burger. Our regular burgers are fresh (not frozen) Certified Angus beef burger - an excellent burger. We also have a tasty Buffalo Burger from 2 Feathers Ranch in White Sulphur, MT. While you are here, try our delicious homemade onion rings or one of our taco specialties. Try a simple ice cream cone or choose a sundae, glacier or smoothie for something extra. We have some of the best Milkshakes around - the hardest part is choosing which flavor!

We make everything fresh as you order it so sometimes there may be a wait but as you sit by Rock Creek in the summer and visit with friends or meet new ones it might just be worth the wait. Our menu is varied - you can grab a burger and fries, an indian taco or taco salad, fresh salads, butterfly shrimp, or a veggie wrap just to name a few.

Stop in eat by the creek and enjoy your day in Red Lodge.??

Phoenix Pearl Tea

Phoenix Pearl Tea

There are thousands of tea shops in the U.S., and most of them fit into one of three categories: the British-style tearoom, the Asian tea shop, and the herbalist. Our management team doesn`t want to be any of those, so we created our own feel. Our tea tavern doesn`t focus on any one particular geographic area (we import tea and herbs from over 20 different countries), or any one tea style. Our core operating principles are:

It`s all about the flavor. We don`t pick teas and herbs based on health claims or trendiness. We import high-quality teas, estate-grown wherever possible, that we think taste good.

No tea snobs here. We believe that there`s no wrong way to enjoy a cup of tea. We won`t look down our noses at you if you want us to add sugar to a first-flush Darjeeling, or milk to your gunpowder green tea. That`s may not be how we drink it, but if you like it that way, it`s right for you.

We don`t want the high-energy, loud environment of a coffee shop. Our tea tavern is a calm place to relax alone or with your friends.

We are tabletop game fans, so we provide games to play and plenty of places to play them.

We are big fans of shopping local. Our food is local whenever possible, and we do much of our blending here on-premises (we`re part of the Made in Montana program) so we can control the ingredients and keep them fresh.
